Primula vulgaris | Primrose, Cowslip

1 April 2011. Very prim and proper little cushions of flowers. This is the Primula vulgaris alba, the white variety growing at the hortus botanicus in Amsterdam. According to some old recipes, the flowers fermented with water and honey have been used to make an intoxicating wine. The plant also contains salicylates – the main ingredient in aspirin.
